Starting a wellness journey is daunting and worrisome but maintaining once you’ve reached your goal can be just as worrisome. I’ve found myself thinking about this a lot lately as I prepare to possibly do something that will put me on the sideline for a short period of time from my regular workout routine. A growing fear of digressing has me constantly thinking about what will happen.

Reaching Your Goal is the First Step
The hardest part of a wellness journey is not getting started, that part tends to be easy. Continuing when times get tough is difficult, as I’ve discussed in previous posts. However, once you reach your goal, you must maintain it. Often, people reach their goal but then get digress back to their old ways because they get comfortable. The fear of digressing is what ultimately worries many of us.
Mindset of Messing Up
Even if you went through the process of changing your mindset, diet and exercise routine, there is still concern that you’ll mess up. At times, this has led me to fear that if I overindulge or enjoy treats, I will suffer a setback. Even when logic tells me that this won’t happen, I live in fear of this happening. Self-control and mindset are things we must continue to work on.
Recently, I was in the store, and I saw Klondike bars on sale. I enjoy having ice cream once in a while, but I rarely kept it in my freezer until the last few months. Why? Fear that if I had it in the freezer I would overeat or indulge in it all the time because I really like ice cream. Guess what? I eat it every so often, but I have not overindulged and discovered that I tend to forget it’s there. Also, it hasn’t caused me to get off my diet, exercise plan or gain an abundant amount of weight. I’ve maintained.
Overcoming Fear While Continuing to Work
There is always the possibility that we can get off track. Gaining weight back is another possibility. Losing the desire to work out might happen. Deciding to give up on focusing on mindfulness might occur. However, just as you worked through the process to get where you are now, you have the tools to maintain. You have the ability to overcome any challenges that get in your way.
